🎃 “Trick or Track: Reviewing October to Avoid Spooky Surprises” 👻

A halloween themed fun graphic with Laura-Jean as a witch riding a broom. There is a cauldron brewing and the text reads: Monthly Review: Your secret potion for brewing success.

As October comes to a close, it’s not just pumpkins we’re carving – it’s time to carve out time for a monthly review for your small business! 📝

Taking time at the end of each month to assess what’s working and what’s not is like looking under the bed for monsters – it may feel a little daunting, but it’s the key to keeping scary things from creeping up unexpectedly in your business!

What’s Been Brewing in October? 🧙‍♀️✨

After one month of working (and working on) my Q4 strategy, I’ve already seen some magical results in my business. Here are some highlights:

  • 4 blog posts published – breaking my streak of nine blog-free months! 🥳
  • Engagement is up, and I’ve started building new relationships. Some are even transforming into collaborations – just like alchemy!
  • Organization – my activities are falling into patterns and I’m beginning to create systems.

But every spell has room for improvement. Here are some areas where I see room to grow:

  • More frequent social posts would help keep the conversations bubbling.
  • Systems and scheduling – I’m still winging it in certain areas, so more planning and scheduling is needed.
  • Promoting events more effectively would boost attendance and make them even more impactful.

Why Monthly Reviews Are Like a Potion for Progress 🍵

A monthly review isn’t just about what you’ve accomplished – it’s about recalibrating and setting yourself up for the next phase. It keeps you moving forward, even when everything isn’t perfect right away. By reviewing, refining, and planning regularly, you create momentum – just like a snowball that grows with each roll.

The magic of this process? You don’t need to do everything perfectly from day one. What matters is being intentional about tracking, measuring, and improving. Just imagine:

Twelve reviews a year means twelve opportunities to fine-tune your strategy and stay on track with your goals. That kind of regular recalibration adds up in big ways!

Avoid Haunting Mistakes with a Monthly Check-In 👀

Sitting down and taking time to do a monthly review may seem counter-productive.

I can just hear you screaming, “But I have so much to DO!” and I get it.

Skipping reviews might feel easier, but over time, small issues can become monsters lurking under the surface. A quick monthly check-in ensures that you spot them before they grow. Your business will feel lighter, more organized, and more focused – like clearing out cobwebs! 🕸️

So, start your monthly reviews now, and by this time next year, you won’t have to imagine how much your business has improved – you’ll see it right in front of you! 💪

I’d love to know if you do monthly reviews, or if you’ll start now after reading this!

What to Do When the Banks Say No – Part 2

In the 90’s, my knitwear business was focused on wholesale. I had samples and I’d visit shops and take orders. It seemed like an easy-peasy business model at first; make product to order and get paid for it. What could go wrong? Here’s the rub: For September delivery, I would get the orders in May. As soon as the order came in, I’d be paying for yarn and labour to produce the order and
